hi maybite

I thought that what could be really really fine,
is to have a very simple modeling plug wich allow to create some dots/vertex, and a delaunay triangulation that create edge and texture coords... 😀 ...
and voila, we can create simple 2D mesh in mws, the best mapping tool even made

i've been working on it, but i'm not a greate developper, even if i saw that things like mesh lib or hemesh for processing could help
http://www.leebyron.com/else/mesh/
http://www.wblut.com/2010/05/04/hemesh-a-3d-mesh-library-for-processing/

is it just a dream, or do you think that one day i can have this tool, or have some help to create it ?

cheers and happy new year !

hi yopla

these libraries look pretty cool, but currently I dont see any way to implement them easily (to be optimistic). But I dont understand what you want to be able to achieve with them. Maybe you can describe me what you wanna do, and why you wanna do it?

If you want to use models generated by those libraries you need to (somehow) export them, then (most likely) import them to a modelling tool to create a uv-map and then export it again to be able to import it into meshwarpserver. This is a cumbersom process, I know, but much quicker (an understatement) than to develop what you (might) wanna have.
But its nice to hear you like my tool and think great things of it.

thanks!

in fact, i'm searching a way to make some quick and simples instalations, in order to try and try and try, as we sometimes do with theatre compagny for example...

so, if it's could be possible to make a simple grid (and not only a regluar matrix) directly in max by cliking in a window then create a 2d mesh, it could gives more time for imagination, and could be more reactive with performers. Sometimes there can be 25 ideas/seconds 🙂

by the way, i've made a lots of transformation of your gui in this way, i could send you a version if you want. (I've also remove the softedge and put the gradient editor as a texture of a standard mesh to made them beacause i didn't find a way to make diagonal recovery, and i add a time-code transfert between several computer)

finally, this is my first creation with my very diy tool from yours :

only one mbp2011 and really low cost media creation, but fantastic experience for me !

thanks again

Yes, please send me your version of mwserver, I wonder how you adapted it to your needs.

why exactly did you remove softedge? didnt you find it usefull? what is diagonal recovery?

do you mind if I add your video to meshwarpservers-exhibition? I also would like to add some more info about you and the project itself. I dont know your name for example 🙂

inregards to the shown installation: at 2:17 there is a vertical white line crossing from the left to right, and some strange spikes show up - it looks as if your mesh was not subdivided - could that be? or was that intentional? and your movie looks as if it had a jitter - did you use AppleProres with an SSD?

and last but not least

mwservers implementation of a 3d editor is very cumbersome and I dont wanna dive into it again because I am currently creating a new approach for a different tool, but this time (almost) completely java based (but still within the maxmsp framework). this new library is designed in a way that it can find its way into a new version of mwserver aswell. it is in development and I dont wanna release it until it has the functionality I need, but it is better suited for your idea.

but to start, maybe you could create a simple processing sketch in which you describe how your interaction with the mesh could look like?

i've done it yesterday 🙂
voila a simple meshmaker for 2D graphists in processing. A final touch and will share it

Well see, i've forgot subdivision ... but it was still graphic héhé. And the jitter of the right screen wasn't on the laptop screen, maybe it's due to hardware ? (matrox triple head, or converter behind them to vp). If i remeber well, it was intermediate codec, no SSD. Able to composite 2fullHD at 25fps with this kind of graphsim.

For the softedge, i was wondering if it's possible to make some like in this configuration, with curved mesh.

maybe we could exange in private for the rest ? how can i send you a file ?

Regarding Softedge - There is (almost?) every imaginable shape possible. Its a strange approach - using a mesh to shape the softedge, but this way I was able to use the same editor.

So to answer your question: yes, this problem should be solvable.
